Nonlinear observers: Precursors for controlling noisy real-world system

Talk Details

IEEE CS/RA/SMC Technical Event at the University of British Columbia (UBC) on August 14th 2017 from 11am-12pm.

Abstract

The talk begins with a breif over view of Dr. Vijayaraghavan’s research on co-design based optimization and fuel cell diagnostics

The main talks gives an overview of the challenges of observer design for nonlinear system. The talk then discusses a new observer for Generalised Sector Bounded Nonlinear system developed by Dr. Vijayaraghavan’s group that can estimate the states in the presence of noise and input disturbance. The talk then dicusses how the observer can be extended to parameter and fault estimation. The talk also compares the observer to Extened Kalman Filters and illustrates the advantages of the proposed observer.
